How to organise your garage
The hardest part of organising your garage? Getting started! If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the task at hand, use these tips to alleviate your stress.
- Visualise your plan of attack, or better yet, write it down.
- Take stock of everything in there and make a mental note of what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.
- Don’t attempt it all in one day. Give yourself enough time - a weekend or two should do the trick.
- Turn it into a family activity or invite a few friends over to pitch in. It’ll go a lot faster.
- Go through everything. And we mean EVERYTHING. Don’t be tempted to chuck items into an ‘I’ll deal with that later’ box.
Sort all your items into four piles - keep, donate, sell and throw away. Lay them on dedicated tarps or mark off areas of your driveway and place them there.

Whatever you choose to keep can be sorted into broad categories, like ‘sports’, ‘tools’ or ‘gardening’. Place them in marked boxes or stackable containers.
Get a storage system
